A fun and lively march for animal rights and healthy eating! Gene and fellow veg-heads paraded through the streets of Manhattan wielding banners and signs and chanting for an end to the suffering perpetuated by factory farming.

The Farm Sanctuary Gala

May 14, 2011

Farm Sanctuary’s 25th Anniversary Gala has only just concluded, and we’re already reminiscing about what a great time we had! I don’t know where to start! How about with dessert?

Vegan Treats went all-out with their decadent offerings for the evening. Everyone was in eager anticipation of the treats, and we were not disappointed! All the deserts were almost too beautiful to cut into but too delicious to resist!

Dinner was magic. Cipriani and Field Roast came together for the very first time to create an amazing gourmet, vegan feast. Wow! While dining, we were moved by the heartfelt speeches of tonight’s award winners. There was shared much love, compassion and respect for the animals still suffering the cruelty of factory farms.

Throughout the evening attendees were abuzz over the fabulous auction items, which raised tens of thousands of dollars to assist Farm Sanctuary’s work. Farm Sanctuary has become what it is today through the sincere efforts of a large group of people over the last 25 years. Considering the massive outpouring of community support seen tonight, I can only imagine what we will achieve in the future.

Sweets in NYC

May 14, 2011

Who says dessert has to follow a meal? At Peacefood Cafe we started the feasting with a decadent vegan cinnamon bun while at Terri we interspersed our gourmet sandwich sampling with their scrumptious Butterfinger Shake. And then there’s the vegan dessert meccas where we started AND ended with sweet treats such as Lula’s Sweet Apothecary’s Cake Batter Soft-Serve Ice Cream Sundae and Cocoa V’s signature chocolate cake.

John Joseph

May 14, 2011

Outside of Terri on 23rd Street, we ran into John Joseph. His book, Meat is for Pussies, promotes kind, vegan living. He knows all too well the consequences of violence.

Russell Simmons

May 14, 2011

In an office high above the streets of Manhattan, we spoke to Russell Simmons about veganism, animal rights, and karma.

Savory in NYC

May 14, 2011

If you have an appetite for travel and cruelty-free cuisine, a vegan tour of NYC is a must! This city knows how to show vegans a good time. We went to some of New York’s best vegan establishments and could fill a few more days with good eats if our scheduled allowed. We sampled fare at Peacefood Cafe, Pure Food and Wine, Candle 79, Terri, Sacred Chow, Lula’s Sweet Apothecary, and Cocoa V. The hospitality we received was sublime. One can see and taste the passion and dedication these restaurateurs have for vegan cuisine.
